Young Filmmakers Program

The Ashes to Films Young Filmmakers Program is a free, immersive, 6-day filmmaking workshop for young people ages 14–18 who’ve been impacted by the LA wildfires.

🎬 Tell your story. Learn to film it. Share it with the world.

(All in one week, with pro filmmakers to guide you.)

✅ Have you been significantly affected by the LA Fires?

✅ Have a story idea you’re excited about?

✅ Want to make a short film but don’t know where to start?

The Ashes to Films Young Filmmakers Program is here to help you do just that.

In partnership with the New York Film Academy (NYFA), we’re selecting 16 creators to participate in a free one-week filmmaking workshop in Los Angeles from July 28–August 2, 2025.

You’ll learn the basics of storytelling, directing, and working with professional equipment — all while creating your own short film with guidance from award-winning instructors.

No experience needed—just passion. If you’ve been affected by wildfires and have a story to tell — this is your chance to be heard.

  • 🎬 No filmmaking experience required

  • 🍽️ Free lunch provided every day

  • 💵 $500 micro grant for each selected participant to make their film

  • 🎥 All films will premiere at the Ashes to Films Festival

    🔥 Important:

Your film does not need to be about fire.

We’re looking for stories of resilience and overcoming adversity—told in your voice, your way.

Applications are open until June 30th

The 16 winners will be announced by July 10th
